Patients should expect to return to clinic approximately 2-4 weeks after their initial visit for a follow-up, and then approximately monthly, depending upon their individual needs, the severity and complexity of their symptoms, and their overall progress. Most patients do well, and after a few follow-ups they enter the maintenance phase of treatment, in which they require only check-ups and refills; at this point in treatment, patients are invited to return to clinic once every 3-6 months.
Individuals who take Schedule II controlled substances that cannot be refilled (such as Ritalin, or Adderall) must initially return to see me once a month for approximately 3 months, after which, if we are no longer making changes to their medication regimen, and they are doing well enough to enter the maintenance phase of treatment, these patients are required to return for a face-to-face re-evaluation once every 3 months; the maximum allowable time between appointments for all other patients is once every 6 months.
All patients are encouraged to meet with me online at least quarterly (four times a year), but as a concierge psychiatrist, I am always able to accommodate existing patients on very short notice, offering them next-day, and many times even same-day, appointments when necessary. After-hour appointments are regularly available, and some limited weekend appointment times are available for new patients wishing to join the practice.
